Newari Music

Newari music was first introduced during the Medival Era. It originates from the Nepali people of Newar. The three instument categories that are most common with Newari music include membranophones, idiophones, and aerophones. These categories come from the Hornbostel-Sachs scheme of musical instrument classification in Nepal. These different instruments help create the strong rhythms, interesting beats, and upbeat texture throughout the compositions. The Newari music utilizes different wind instuments with a heavy presence of percussion and no string instuments. Many of the Newari compositions are derived from meaningful events that take place in Nepali life. These events include, but are not limited to, birth, weddings, festivals, holidays, and even national events.
