The majority of the populatin in Nepal recognize and practice Hindu as their main religion. However, there are several different religions, including Christianity, Buddhism, and Islam. In 1990 Nepal was named the only Hindu state in the world but many of the Nepali people tend to intermingle the Hindu and Buddhism religions. This is said to contribute to the peace that the Nepali people have with the different religions that are practiced throughout the country. The holidays in Nepal are, for the most part, derived from religious ties and backgrounds. Their traditions, also pull from religious ties such as the enlightenment tradition. The enlightenment tradition focuses on the selfless service acts to help each other when in times of need. This may tie back into why the people of Nepal are so hospitable.
